Our office utilizes specialized instruments and cutting-edge techniques to give our patients optimal quality in their management of periodontal-disease, or gum disease.
Periodontal disease causes an inflammatory reaction which leads to the destruction of the fibers that connect our teeth to the bone and ultimately causes bone loss.
In our Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy procedure, we first use a specifically designed scalers and devices to remove plaque, bacteria, and calculus deposits on the root surfaces.
After the teeth and root surfaces are cleaned out and smoothed, the diode laser is then used to selectively remove the diseased and infected lining within the pocket. The laser will also significantly reduce bacteria, promote healing of the tissue, and help regenerate new healthy tissue. Due to the laser's ability to seal off nerve endings and blood vessels, there is much less discomfort and post operative pain than with conventional methods.
The diode laser is also used for a procedure called Laser Bacterial Reduction. This procedure is painless and is added to periodontal maintenance or prophylaxis appointment. It will take about 5-10 minutes at the appointment. This will reduce the periodontal bacteria in the diseased gums, reduce or eliminate bacteria, stimulate new cell growth and healing of tissue.
The treatment of Aphthous ulcers or Herpetic Lesions (cold sores) is performed with the diode laser.
The treatment is pain free and only takes a few minutes. The treatment kills the virus and bacteria and is used to relieve pain, healing time, number and size of the ulcers, and to increase disease free periods. Immediately after treatment, the patients report a numbing effect and pain reduction.
Lasers have been used in dentistry for years. Our hygienists and dentists have advanced training in many different lasers. We are continuing our education in this advanced technology to keep up to date with any changes and protocols that will benefit our patients. We welcome any questions or concerns that you may have about any of our procedures.
